In his January 2023 message to the university community, President Ono announced a new set of values being adopted by the university.

Demonstrating these values is important as we pursue excellence and carry out the university’s mission. The university’s mission is to serve the people of Michigan and the world through preeminence in creating, communicating, preserving and applying knowledge, art, and academic values, and in developing leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future.

Underpinning all of the values is accountability.
